Population Growth in the Americas
This is one of my earliest efforts with d3.js. It isn't the most elegant in appearance and doesn't work very well on touch-screen devices. However, it should.
The chart below, based on UN data, shows how populations in the six largest countries of America (by either 1950 or 2010 population) have changed since 1950. In order to facilitate comparison between countries with very different initial populations, the vertical dimension shows the population of each country relative to it's population in 1950. Data for the total world population is also included for reference.
- Hover over a data point to see more information about a country's population in the corresponding year.
- Click on a data point to bring that country's line and points to the top.
- Click on a label on the right to toggle visibility of the associated dataset.
